Wayne Hills Performs Musical 'Once on This Island'
Play will be staged Saturday too.
On Thursday night, the Romeo & Juliet-based musical "Once on this Island” was performed by the Wayne Hills Theater Workshop. Co-directed by Erin Gilgur and Barbara Castania, this classic story is presented as a bedtime story to a frightened girl during a terrible storm. It is billed as a Caribbean version of ‘The Little Mermaid" and looks at the struggles between class segregation and the power of love overcoming all.
Gilgur notes that the entire cast is very special, and that the yearly play is a challenge to find something that suits all members of the cast. Each year it is more and more difficult to prepare to lose their talented seniors; this year they are losing 15 seniors.
Additional performances for "Once on this Island" are this evening at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12.
