Tribute Band Plays all of Led Zeppelin's Hits

Kashmir will perform at William Paterson University Saturday.

They’re not Led Zeppelin, but they are the closest thing to watching them perform live, according to Jean Violet, Kashmir’s founder and lead singer. Kashmir, who will perform Saturday, April 2 at William Patterson University, captures the live version of Led Zeppelin, note for note.

Kasmir features: Violet on vocals; Andy Urban on lead guitar; Matt Stanley on the bass, keyboard, and mandolin; and Paul Cooper on drums.

Since the gist of the show is not sounding like a Led Zeppelin record, but recreating a concert Zepplin would perform, Kashmir takes pride in utilizing vintage stage gear, costumes, and special effects. Kashmir mostly plays Led Zeppelin’s most popular songs, but also throws in some obscure songs for good measure.

“We give them [the audience] the real deal,” Violet said. “Our shows tend to bring out all ages. We get all the generations, from 12 to 70. We entertain everybody.”

Violet was born in Brooklyn and now lives in Highland Lake. He founded Kashmir nine years ago just for fun, but it “took off like a rocket" in Manhattan and the band has been performing ever since.  Violet is the only founding member of the group left.

Kashmir has played more than 500 shows for crowds as large as 30,000 people and tours extensively.

One of the major attractions to the show is how much Violet looks like Robert Plant, Zeppelin's lead singer.

“One of my benefits that God gave me is I look a lot like Robert Plant,” said Violet, who is really a brunette. “The more I bleach my hair, the more money I make. Some guy looked at me recently and his jaw dropped. I get that a lot.”

Tickets cost between $25 and $16; discounts are available for William Paterson University alumni and students, and senior citizens.
