RHONJ: Fashion Show Fight Fizzles

'Drop Dead Gorgas' fails to deliver the drama.

The calm after the storm was actually pretty boring. Have we gotten so used to the insanity that a quaint Halloween and bubbling gossip seems uneventful? Well, it was.

The insinuation that Teresa couldn't pay attention once set her off with Danielle, sparking the now-hallowed table flip. The charge that she was a negligent mother set her off with Kathy, resulting in some finger pointing and proclamations of being "done." That's about as heated as this episode got.

Posche fashion show, Posche fashion show, Posche fashion show ... it got old after they mentioned it once. I guess there was pressure for more chaos this year but nothing could live up to last year. Needs more weave.

Sure, the show needs time to digest the fight and rift between Teresa and her brother and Melissa but there were just too many tiresome "what ifs." What if Teresa and Melissa get into fisticuffs, what if Kim G implodes in an awesome display of name-calling, what if Caroline's "home-AKA the Brownstone, gets sullied by the nonsense that hit the country club last year?

Kim G, while her effort was noted, didn't exactly succeed in topping her "fake and square t*ts" line with that "fat, crooked ass" one. The play-by-play of Joe "Snooki" Gorga's meltdown was alright, but not exactly the same without some Danny Provenzano cameo.

There was a winning moment in Teresa's comment about Kim G's age, with Caroline eager to mention that she's nearly just as old. Caroline's makeover has her looking like the belle of the ball but somehow it's hard to draw a parallel between the two apart from age.

Kim G is so eager to stir the pot she's got two on the backburner. Caroline seemingly has a multi-part plan for Teresa meltdowns and ancillary drama: get the mothers out of the room first. Tell them to go have a drink.

Teresa walked like she was at a funeral compared to how Melissa strutted her white peacocky attire. At that moment, Caroline's spidey sense went off, and early in the game. One wonders if she'll take offense to Teresa's protestation that she can take care of her own family, a little admission that she wants Caroline to butt out of the whole business for once. But it is her business, as she points out, as with anything Brownstone related.

Do you think Caroline might be reassessing her friendship with Teresa on some level? She is given to large, sudden explosions and Caroline is more of a straight shooter without the fireworks. The "thick as thieves" moment in the first season was one of just a few where she really got cinematic.

Jacqueline is the calming influence on everyone but her voice isn't heeded enough. Or, maybe she just doesn't try enough to cool things off; she'll stay composed, so why worry about everyone else?

Even though this particular episode was all build-up and no payoff, it's safe to assume that little explosions are usually encouraged, though not really embraced by the friends of those involved.

The premiere was an exercise in sad disintegration of patience and respect for loved ones. And people in general. At least this time we got a bit of fun, though it really didn't seem that way when everyone was whispering about the next big brawl.
