Fifteen-year-old Julia Nasiek has received the Wayne YMCA’s 2013 Youth of the Year award for her volunteerism.

“Julia brought her enthusiasm, strong work ethic and creative ideas to the Y’s Counselor-in-Training program to take the White Pines Day Camp to a higher level,’’ said branch Executive Director Tony Ceresoli.

Nasiek was recognized April 3 alongside winners from the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges’ five other member YMCAs at the organization’s annual meeting.  The Metro YMCA is the largest association of YMCAs in New Jersey serving more than 35,000 people.

A sophomore at the Immaculate Heart Academy (Bergen County), Nasiek showed patience, a strong work ethic and a willingness to lend a hand. She attended the Fairview Lake Y’s Leaders Camp at the end of last summer and returned with plans for new teen programs, including a teen fitness club.

“She consistently demonstrates the Y’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and is clearly a young woman who cares deeply for all three of the Y’s areas of focus,’’ Ceresoli said.
