Wayne Council Approves Establishment Of Office Of River Maintenance

The Township Council approved a resolution that sees a bill, passed throughout Passaic County, establish an Office of River Maintenance to handle cleaning and flooding issues of Passaic County rivers.

The Township Council of Wayne passed a resolution recently supporting a bill that would establish an Office of River Maintenance to combat the ongoing problem with flooding.

Introduced by Councilwoman Lonni Miller Ryan, the resolution would set up an office to oversee river maintenance similar to the way in which the Department of Transportation maintains the state highway system. The idea for the bill was developed by the Passaic River Basin Flood Task Force.

"Through a serious maintenance program that would include stream clearing, de-snagging, and bank stabilization, we can lessen the severity of flooding that plagues parts of our town and prevent the minor flooding that happens during heavy downpours," Ryan said, according to northjersey.com.
