A handful of volunteers from Wayne took a day trip down to Manahawkin recently to hand out toys to children displaced or negatively effected by the impact of Hurricane Sandy.
The event took place at The Learning Center of Manahawkin, with toys being collected for weeks prior to the drop-off at Corrado's Market, Wayne Pharmacy, Penta School, and Strawberry Blossom in Wayne. Other drop-off sites included Interstate Maintenance of Boonton, Fringe Salon on Woodcliff Lake, and Roman Academy of Beauty Culture.
The entire collection yielded 445 toys, according to Anna D'Alessandro.
Wayne volunteers were Lynn Olsen, who drove down toys from Wayne to Manahawkin; Eric Miller of Wayne Fire Company 3, who also drove down toys and helped set up for event; Paul Gabbianelli of Paul Gabbianelli & Associates; Danielle Rogers; and Nancy D'Alessandro. Anna D'Alessandro organized the toy collection and helped plan the event for Integrated Services Group of Boonton.
