Post-Transplant Wayne Mom of Twins Gives Birth to One More

A Wayne woman who made headlines by being the first heart transplant patient to give birth to twins four years ago now has another child, report says.

A Wayne woman who made national headlines five years ago for being the first heart transplant recipient to give birth to twins has added one more member to her family, NorthJersey.com reported.

According to the report, Stefania DeMayo gave birth to Luciano three weeks ago, about four years after she had twins Melania and Natalia.

In 2008, DeMayo recevived a heart transplant from a Burlington County 14-year-old boy, Sean Clegg, who died after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle, the report said.

Clegg’s family members are now friends with DeMayo. The two families went on vacation together earlier this year, and Luciano’s middle name is Vincent, after Clegg’s chosen Confirmation name, the report said.

The Cleggs donated five of their son’s organs: a liver, a pancreas, a lung and both kidneys, the report said. Counting Luciano and the twins, Clegg has now saved and made possible the lives of nine people, the report said.

Doctors say they are still unsure of what caused DeMayo’s heart disease, but that it may have been a virus or tooth infection that worked its way to her heart, the report said.
