Candidate Councilwoman is '100% Opposed' to Rezoning Plan

Lonni Miller Ryan is running for re-election to a three-year at large term.

Editor’s note: Councilwoman at large Lonni Miller Ryan released the following statement Saturday regarding the proposed rezoning plan developed by Mayor Chris Vergano and town Planner John Szabo. Miller Ryan, Republican, is running on the Republican ticket in the General Election.

"I just wanted to set the record straight on my position on the proposed rezoning of Wayne. I am 100 percent opposed.

I do not believe it’s in the best interests of Wayne Township to convert commercial space to residential. Nor do I support adding new high-density, multi-family housing to Wayne. Wayne is already a fully developed community. Changing positive rateables (commercial) to negative rateables (housing) will raise our taxes, lower our property values, and have the unintended consequence of destroying open space.

These just aren’t my thoughts. They’re also the sentiments of the overwhelming majority of residents who have called, written, and spoken to me on this issue.

I have a strong record of opposing the overdevelopment of our town, standing up for the residents of Wayne, and fighting for everyone.

If re-elected, I will continue to be a a Republican who is a forceful advocate for us all and will oppose the rezoning of Wayne.”

Wayne Councilwoman at Large
