Wayne Valley Presents 'Chess: The Musical'

Performances start Thursday.

Wayne Valley Theatre presents Chess: the Musical with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, formerly of Abba, and with lyrics by Tim Rice.

It has had a strong cult following in the theatre community and among musical enthusiasts for its complex story and compelling score. It is set in 1988, shortly before Reagan’s declaration to Gorbachev to “Tear down this wall!”

The musical follows a series of chess games between an American and a Russian for the World Chess Championship and is loosely based on the 1972 “Match of the Century”. The game of Chess and political framework parallels the personal lives of the characters as they each make their moves to fulfill their needs and live out their chosen destinies.

Support these talented students (many who have trained with Broadway and off-Broadway professionals) on March 27 at 7:30pm, March 28 at 7:30pm and March 29 at 7:30pm.

Tickets are $15 for Adults, $12 for Students/Seniors and can be purchased at the door. Wayne Valley High School is located at 551 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ.
