Community Corner

!Vote ROGGER ORTIZ FOR BOE! Tuesday, November 5!

My name is Rogger Ortiz and I want to share with you a little bit about my growing involvement in the Wayne community.  As a teenager I worked at the A&P on Valley Road while going to school at DePaul High.  After graduating high school, I moved to Philadelphia for a few years to attend Temple University and took courses in Communications, earning a cum laude bachelor’s degree in Film & Media Arts.

After college, I married Christina Ortiz and we had two boys.  When they were a few years old, we decided that Wayne Township would provide our boys with the education and opportunities we desired.  Our younger son is now enrolled in Elementary school while our older son is attending Middle School.  Student Achievement and the success of the schools of Wayne Township is one of the main reasons why we moved to Wayne, and we push our sons every day to fulfill the promise of a great education.  My goal as a Board member is to continue to find ways to challenge all our kids to achieve beyond their potential and to keep Wayne’s reputation as having one of the best school districts around.

At the Boys & Girls Club of Wayne I worked directly with children.  I taught computers from Kindergarteners to counselors and helped with student’s homework.  I coached various sports as well, high-fiving hundreds upon hundreds of Wayne athletes, many of whom would grow up to be counselors and referees themselves!  In order to provide an outlet for such a wide array of activities, Safety and Security is paramount.  As a Board member, I will ensure that everything the Board does will be in the best interest of our students’ safety so that they, and we as parents, can continue to participate in our school’s activities without worry.

Recently I launched 2 local small businesses: [gg designs], an IT/Social Media firm, and ‘Christina by design’, a hair salon, both businesses based in Wayne.  I am very proud to serve the Wayne community and I continue to support various fundraising efforts that enrich our community.  It has been a major challenge, however, to balance our interests while caring for our community.  Fiscal Responsibility is important in today’s economy.  Investing in infrastructure, removing financial waste, and keeping costs down helps not only our local businesses, but our community as a whole.

I am humbly seeking your support.  My experiences with children on the field and in a classroom setting, my shared interest in keeping our children safe, and my continued volunteer service to our community is the kind of representation Wayne needs on the Board of Education.  Vote ‘Rogger Ortiz' for BOE November 5th!

Thank you.
