DCH Montclair Acura sponsors Tourette Walk and helps little girl in the process

WAYNE – The New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) is proud to announce DCH Montclair Acura as its tent sponsor for the 4th annual NJ Walks For TS at Mendham on Saturday, November 23, a day dedicated toward awareness, acceptance, action and advocacy on behalf of the children and families affected by TS and other neurological disorders.

DCH Montclair Acura – which serves the communities of Verona, Wayne and Newark, and the greater Sussex, Morris, Passaic and Essex county areas – has donated $250 toward the cost of purchasing tents to facilitate NJ Walks For TS at Mendham. All proceeds from the event will help educate teachers and nurses at schools in every corner of the state, as well as conducting peer trainings and anti-bullying sessions on behalf of New Jersey kids with Tourette Syndrome.

One of those kids is 10-year-old Erin Miskell, who was diagnosed with TS in March 2011 and is the niece of Heather Southard, an accounts payable clerk for the Verona-based DCH Montclair Acura dealership.

“It has been a hard adjustment for her and our family, but NJCTS has been a wonderful help with their information, the walks and Camp Bernie,” Southard said. “Erin is learning to live with Tourette day by day. It used to make me sad and wonder why this had to happen to her, but I look at her, and she isn’t letting it define her. This donation is for her and everyone with this disorder.”

Joining Southard in fundraising on Erin’s behalf is the rest of the Miskell family, as well as many friends and well-wishers. For the third straight year, they’ve formed “Team E.” And once again, Team E is one of NJ Walks For TS at Mendham’s premier fundraising outfits. With two months remaining before the walk, Team E already has raised more than $3,000.

“DCH Montclair Acura’s support of New Jersey’s kids like Erin Miskell is greatly appreciated and will go a long way toward achieving the goals of NJ Walks For TS at Mendham,” NJCTS Executive Director Faith W. Rice said. “We are excited to partner once again with DCH Montclair Acura, which is dedicated toward walking the walk and standing up to help kids with neurological disorders, and wish Erin and the rest of Team E the best with their efforts.”
