Construction on New Town Center Anchor Store to Begin

The part of the Wayne Town Center where the main building used to be remains vacant.

Construction on a new anchor store at the Wayne Town Center is expected to begin soon, town officials said. Work is scheduled to begin in the next week, said town planner John Szabo. Cleanup crews will be working to remove debris and weeds from the site before construction begins. Large piles of dirt have already been removed the site. Szabo said officials have met with project representatives recently in an attempt to "move the project along," Szabo said. A representative from Wayne Town Center Associates and Jerome Vogel, the attorney representing WTCA, could not be reached for comment. A large portion of the 49-acre site, where the Wayne Town Center used to be located, remains undeveloped. Several restaurants, including a TGI Friday’s, …

New Business Helps Amputees Stay Active

Sunshine Prosthetics and Orthotics provides adults and children with artificial limbs the chance to play sports and outdoor activities.

A new business in town works to help those who have lost their legs a chance to walk again. Sunshine Prosthetics and Orthotics held its grand opening and a open house on Thursday. The facility provides personalized care by designing custom devices for physically-challenged adults and children with prosthetics. Owner Brooke Artesi is an amputee. She lost part of her right leg and foot when she was 15. “Each of our patients has a unique need,” Artesi said in a press release. “Providing the best care possible for our patients is our main focus and my goal is to keep people active.” Artesi competes annually in the Extremity Games, an adaptive sports competition for amputees, and has won awards for both rock climbing and kayaking. Physician Receives Patients' Choice Award

Dr. Anthony Barravecchio has received a Patients’ Choice Award for 2012. Barravecchio is a physician with Allied Medical Associates, a family medicine practice in Wayne. Only the top five percent of physicians and dentists receive a Patients’ Choice Award. The awards are distributed to physicians and dentists who receive top scores on websites. The Venetian in Garfield was the fashionable place to be Thursday night as Posh Boutique in Montville staged a dress and bikini fashion event hosted by "Real Housewives of NJ" stars Melissa Gorga and Kathy Wakile.  The sold-out event included a number of vendors with an array of products from "Sparkle," custom-made shoes to hand-dipped berries.  The evening included a dinner and opportunities to rub elbows with business owners, designers, entrepreneurs and reality TV celebrities. One Horn Transportation, a Wayne-based trucking and logistics services firm, was recently named one of the 50 fastest growing women-owned or led companies in North America by The Women President's Organization (WPO). One Horn Transportation provides trucking and logistics services to manufacturers and distributors of fresh and frozen food, industrial materials, and consumer goods throughout the United States and Canada. The company was founded in 2005.
