Even though my kid is in one of the competing bands, I understand that all of the bands are really talented. Please come out and support a good solid event like this - its a total win-win-win for the kids, for the anti-drug programs and for the township itself. If you haven't been to the YMCA, they have a terrific professional-quality auditorium and stage in a very well-kept facility. Come out on…   more ›

'Unique' Experience Offered on Local Radio Station

On-air host says his show plays music not found on contemporary radio.

For a North Jersey resident experimenting with local radio, the medium isn’t about the talking or the technology, it’s about the music. “What I do on my show is just so different from mainstream radio,” Keith Smollin said of the ‘Naked Brunch Radio Show,” which he hosts Saturday afternoons on WPSC 88.7 FM, William Paterson University’s radio station. The show plays deep cuts from rock albums, both classic and contemporary. “It’s not the Number 1’s. So, while it may be a band you know, it’s the deeper tracks from their albums,” Smollin said. “A lot of classic rock, and a lot of music you just don’t get to hear anywhere else.” Smollin, a Paramus High School grad who moved to Ramsey two years ago, said he first experimented at the radio …

Three of Palmyra resident Frank Stefanko's photos of Bruce Springsteen appear in a revealing new biography about the Boss.

Bruce, published Oct. 30 by Simon & Schuster, is already on the New York Times bestseller list. The 494-page book, written with Springsteen’s cooperation, has a South Jersey connection.  Palmyra resident Frank Stefanko shot three of the photos used in the book. Two of the pictures were shot at the former Shellow’s Luncheonette in East Camden in 1978. One shows Springsteen playing pinball as members of the E Street Band watch. The other is a group shot, with the entire band jammed around a booth.  The third photo, shot in 1982, depicts pre-superstardom Springsteen sitting…
