"New Jerseyans have to help other New Jerseyans," Christie said.

The governor urged people to call their friends and relatives who live in potentially-hazardous areas. He wants people to be proactive.

"This is serious storm. Get the store," Christie urged. "Get a five-day supply of non-perishable food. Make sure you have can opener to open that food. Be prepared."

The press conference begins at about 17 minutes into the video.
