Town Applying For $1.5 Million For New Athletic Fields
Township holding public hearing Wednesday on county grant application. Officials looking to install soccer, softball, and lacrosse fields on 12 acres of land on Alps Road near DePaul Catholic High School.
A public hearing on a grant to help fund the installation of athletic fields on Alps Road will be held Wednesday during a council meeting.
The township is applying for a $1.5 million grant to develop and install athletic fields on 12 acres of land off of Alps Road near Hamburg Turnpike and DePaul Catholic High School. The town is applying to the Passaic County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund for the money.
Officials want to install soccer, softball, lacrosse, and possibly football fields on the property. The township purchased the land in for $4.5 million in 2006.
The township will also use funds from the state’s Green Acres fund and the county to complete the proposed project.
The township will present the project to the open space committee in September. Officials hope to hear if the town received the grant in December.
The township will go out to bid for the project in the middle of 2013 when funding is in place and a design plan is finalized.
Officials will not know the exact cost of the project until bids come back.
The council meeting begins at 8 p.m. It will be broadcast on cable channel 77 and online.
