Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and there are many places in Wayne to buy fresh flowers for that special person in your life.

Bosland’s Flower Shop

Employees at Bosland’s were hard at work cleaning roses and getting special orders ready last week. Owner Jill Magee said she and her staff would clean about 5,000 roses for Valentine’s Day.

Magee said that more and more orders are being placed online and over the phone for her staff to complete. She said that she and her staff enjoy interacting with customers and adding an element of personalization to each order.

The shop has been a fixture in town since 1944.

“We’ll get a lot of walk-ins for Valentine’s Day, there’s no doubt about that, but completing the orders that come in electronically, it leaves a lot of the personalization out of it and that is what’s so nice about doing this,” said Magee. “It’s nice to talk to someone and find out what they, and the person or people they are buying for, like.”

Marie Martin said that buying flowers for someone should be like buying food.

“That’s how it is in Europe,” said Martin, owner of Victorian Florist on Alps Road. “Out there flowers are bought before someone even buys food. They are always fresh.”

Martin said colors and fragrance play a large role in selecting the proper flowers for someone. Just picking one out because it looks nice isn’t enough.

“Flowers can move people in ways that nothing else can. There’s a lot of care that should go into buying flowers for someone,” Martin said. “When you look at a flower, you immediately note its color and everyone has a favorite color. And when you smell them, it should be a smell that you enjoy. These are the things that we associate with good memories. Even years later we might see or smell something that will remind us of that experience and the person.”
