State Aid to Wayne Remains Flat

Council President Joseph Scuralli: 'I just would have liked to see an increase to help give some relief to our overburdened taxpayers.'

The Township will Receive the same amount of state aid this year, more than $4.3 million, as it did last year under Gov. Chris Christie’s proposed $32.1 billion budget, figures released Wednesday show.

The Township is set to receive more than $4,358,000, the same amount doled out from Trenton last year, according to the state Department of Community Affairs

“It’s certainly welcome, I just would have liked to see an increase to help give some relief to our overburdened taxpayers considering Passaic County residents pay the highest percentage of property taxes based on their income in the country,” said Council President Joseph Scuralli.

Mayor Chris Vergano did not return e-mail messages seeking comment.

State aid is used to help control property taxes, and Christie said no town would see its aid cut.

“This stable funding – coupled with such reforms as the 2 percent property tax cap, pension and health benefit reform and a 2 percent cap on interest arbitration awards – is driving down the cost of local government and controlling the property tax problem," Christie said in a statement.

Knowing the amount will help the township administration formulate a preliminary budget. The council will introduce that budget and a committee will be formed to work with Mayor Chris Vergano and the administration and develop a final budget, which the council will then vote on.

Mr. Scuralli.....I recently read some guy is trying to change the chicken law in town. That seems like a great idea to give some relief to our overburdened taxpayers. Dairy costs have recently skyrocketed. Plus, supermarket eggs are filled with antibiotics and hormones. And I learned you are allowed to raise pigeons, Disgusting!

Also, my neighbor has 3 barking dogs. I don't think they would mind if I have a few hens.

Pay down the debt ! the town council by constantly bonding purchases now spends 10% of the budget on debt service - show some discipline and get us out of debt - they are no better than our congress and state assembly - almost $ 7 MILLION in 2011 for Municipal Debt Service - just for contrast the Federal Budget only spends 5% on Debt Service -so when Schweighardt and Scuralli criticize the Federal budget they should look in the mirror and see their own hypocrisy

wayneinwayne, calling someone a fraud isn't a personal attack? ok. thank you daniel for your hard work on reporting these articles and for attempting to foster an appropriate forum. the only thing i would change is having a poll where each person can only vote one time.

also wayneinwayne, the other article is probably still active with people still complaining about the BOE's decision regarding the coach/ad position.

dory - i know its a personal attack. thats my point. daniel allows personal attacks yet censors normal posts that he views to be off-topic. i was questioning the poster joevideodummy about his statement regarding monaghan. i was merely pointing out that i cant take him or any of his posts ( on this or any forum ) seriously or with any credibility if he thinks managahn is a hero. Daniel is a horrible forum moderator because he lets people post inappropriate personal attacks

U were talking about someone's child on an article that has nothing to do with him. The article above is about state aid to Wayne I see you made the same comment on another article as well. Daniel was correct in this particular situation.

That's above 10% of the averaged assessed value of a single family home in town.

Does anybody know how many flood 'buy-out contracts' were finalized in 2011 ?
Also, there are only 3 days left in February. Where is the Flood-gate report ?

It's time we starting getting our chicken-coops in a row !!!
