Residents Can Get Rid of Hazardous Waste Saturday
Car batteries, antifreeze, and aerosol cans will be accepted.
Residents can dispose of hazardous household items at a collection event Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Passaic County Para-Transit Facility.
The event is from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The facility is located at 1310 Rte. 23 North in Wayne, behind Ski Barn.
The following materials will be accpeted. They must be in marked containers with original lables: propane tanks, pool chemicals, oil-based paint, aerosol cans, button-sized, nickel cadium, and rechargable batteries, kerosone, flourescent light blubs, photographic chemicals, car batteries, used motor oil and oil filters, antifreeze, flares, fire extinguishers, mercury switches and thermometers, corrosives and cleaners, varnishes and waxes, and solvents and thinners.
The following items will not be accepted: smoke detectors, explosives, medical waste, computers and electronics, radioactive material, infectious waste, tires and appliances, household alkaline batteries, latex paint, dioxins, and silvex.
Proof of residence is required to drop materials off. Unknown or unidentifiable material will not be accepted.
