A resident reported possibly seeing a coyote near Lafayette Elementary School early Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Wayne Police Chief John Reardon said officers checked the area around Tuxedo Drive, but did not locate the animal. The caller told police they'd either seen a coyote or a fox.
A potentially rabid fox also attacked two children and an adult in February 2011, and police killed a potentially rabid fox on Foxoboro Road last March.
“With the changes in the seasons, a lot of animals are on the move now,” Reardon said.
Reardon said that anyone who sees a suspicious looking animal should contact either police (973-694-9295) or animal control (973-694-0600).
