"Real Housewife" Wakile Wants to Show Viewers that She's Genuine

Wayne resident said reality television personalities need to be accountable for their words and actions.

When Kathy Wakile was first contacted by Bravo to be on “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” she thought it was a practical joke.

“I watched the show and of course my cousin was on it and I’d been invited to events they’d done, but I thought that I could be a part of it,” Wakile said.

Wakile’s cousin is fellow “Housewife” regular Teresa Giudice. Her primary concern about appearing on the show was putting her two children on television, Victoria and Joseph, who were 16 and 14 when filming of the show’s third season began.

“High school’s hard enough,” Wakile said. “When you’re in high school it’s difficult so we [Wakile and her husband Rich] tried to put every worst case scenario out there for them and see what their answers were. And they came back with all the right answers.”

Wakile wants viewers to see that the way her family is on the show is genuine. She and Victoria had a conversation about sex.

“A lot of people thought that was strange,” Wakile said of the talk, which she says was “about self respect [and being] accountable for your actions.”

Wakile’s feud and ongoing conflict with Giudice and her family was featured on the show last season.

“I got a lot of heat [from fans] saying I went against my blood. Well, Joe’s my blood too, and I never went against Teresa,” Wakile said. “I tried to make her see where she and Joe were misreading each other.”

Wakile, a 16-year Wayne resident, said that reality television personalities cannot blame editing and networks for what they say and how they act on shows.

“If you said it, you said it, but you don’t know what I said before and you don’t know what I said after,” she said. “So where editing comes into play and where you might get a little ‘oh, well I said something really nice before that but they didn’t put that in there.’”

As another example, after a fight that occurred at the Posche Fashion Show, Wakile spoke to the show’s producers after the filming occurred.

“I said I was trying to reason with her [Giudice] intelligently, and then they got the clip ‘I guess intelligence is just a foreign language to her,’ and they put that somewhere else. That’s editing.”

New Jersey is the Place To Be

While Wakile recognizes the “unfortunate” stereotype that comes with New Jersey’s popularity in the media, she said, “Why wouldn’t it be hot? We have so much to offer.”

“I mean, we have the mountains in an hour, we’ve got New York City, we have the beach, we have everything you could possibly want in New Jersey. People don’t realize it,” she said. “[And] we have the best produce.”

Season Four

Season Four began filming in May 2010, Wakile said, giving the housewives a chance to showcase The Garden State in the summer, which the show hasn’t done yet.

“It’s a really great, fun season, season four and there’s a lot going on and a lot happening, and Jersey comes alive in the summertime,” Wakile said. “You’ll see a different Jersey Shore than America is used to, let me put it that way.”

Wakile said it was difficult at first to be the new person on the show, as fans did not receive her well at first. The first episode of the season featured a fistfight between different members of her family during the Gorgas’ son’s christening. Wakile said that incident occurred on only her second day of filming.

Wakile said she doesn’t like confrontations. She said viewers’ opinion of her changed as the season progressed, especially regarding the ongoing feud with Giudice.

“I think people got to see a little bit more of who I was and how I am with my family,” Wakile said. “I think the story started to unravel a little bit and people got to see reactions back and forth and how I continued to try to reconcile with Teresa.”

Wakile said she never wanted to get in the middle of a family confrontation. That’s not her style.

“I don’t like trouble; I don’t,” she said. “I really cringe at confrontation. I try to avoid it all times.”

I'm a Wayne resident too, and I couldn't care less about this woman. Why does the media find it necessary to print articles on these people when there are so many other news worthy items out there instead of this garbage. Yes, NJ has a lot to offer and it's not you Wakile and your little wannabe bunch. We're not interested. You're not all that.

@Tammy Smith, Most here don't watch the show thats the point. First of all there is nothing REAL about REALITY TV. So to be genuine a show thats fake is kinda off the wall huh? Seems the fame as you put it is not to positive now is it? Just judging by the comments here alone. The entire cast has let the show go to their heads. Manzo's included..Now if ego's were music, this cast would be an orchestra, and YOU Tammy would be their conductor

About as down to earth as Godzilla. Cmon give me a break. All they do is flaunt thier lifestyle in everybodies face. They are in it to make a buck. Most Wayne families are too moral and ethical then to put thier families on display and make jackasses out of themselves.

Talk about being on the wrong side of history! The Walkiles epitomize every god-awful (and often stereotypical) characteristic of the self-serving elite 1%. Geographically, HWofNJ families are neighbors but philosophically they embody an alien culture - one that couldn't be more disconnected from the immigrant ancestors with whom they claim a special kinship. These HW’s & the Bravo brain dead have their fingers on the pulse of their checkbooks & not on the pulse of America or the its zeitgeist. Just how naive do the Walkiles think we are? Her kids gave the right answers because they were emulating their elders in a land grab for undeserved celebrity & the easy entry doors this new false fame strata delivers (i.e. the modern day equivalent of yesterday's Casino Greeter with one notable exception; the C.G. once did something to earn fame). The Walkile family knows there's no such thing as voluntary withdrawal from reality TV (imagine I’m clearing my throat to draw attention to the so-called Kardashian Kurve; an algorithm devised when Dr.Hawking & Simon Cowell joined forces to analyze the variation between actual reality (a chaotic, sometimes even broken line) & carefully scripted "reality" television (a too perfect, ennui-inducing arc with three distinct acts). The Walkile kids gave the perfect answers (a.k.a. rationalizations) that Kathy and her husband gave when they traded their integrity & family's soul for a seat next to Andy in the Bravo "Let Them Eat Cake" Clubhouse.

Shes a fake and her husband is worse. They do have two wonderful children but I think that because of what the parents are and how they are living like they been movies stars forever it will eventually catch up with the kids. Her husband is one of the most arrogant person I have ever met.

There is nothing genuine about anyone in this family. Her tits - fake. His personality - fake. Kids - typical Wayne posers. What a waste of carbon life form.

Yes they are, more him then here and its unfortunate that Rich is exploiting his kids on twitter. Yes I do understand that its about the money but the man has a good job. Me as a parent would try and keep my kids as low key as I could to avoid a good future for them, its not like they are movie stars, ya know? this is only 15 min of fame that we will all forget except knowing that they are full of bologna people. What I don't like is that they are both using their celebrity status to get free clothing etc.. outside of Wayne, do they actually think people dont talk? just saying, I;m done giving these people more PR.

People, it's meant to nonsensical entertainment. Maybe these people are fake, maybe not. It's not a PBS documentary! And Kathy's not a dog! Goodness. And of course people do it for the money. I do wonder about the effects on the kids though; I wouldn't do it for that reason. As soon as Bravo calls to ask me to come on the show I'll tell them that!!!
