Power Outages Appear to be Restored

Many home on and near Black Oak Ridge Road seem to have power.

Many homes on and near Black Oak Ridge Road appear to have power as of early Monday morning.

That area of town dealt with not having power for nearly two weeks thanks to Hurricane Sandy. Residents in the area were outraged at their service provider, Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L)

According to a map on JCP&L's website, all power to Wayne customers has been restored.

JCP&L provides power to approximately 10 to 15 percent of the township. Wayne and other North Jersey residents criticized the utility company for being too understaffed and too small to handle such widespread outages after Sandy hit.

Local and county officials were outraged at the company's lack of response time.

Passaic County Freeholder Director Pat Lepore sent Donald Lynch, president of JCP&L, a letter last week "condemning their handling of the situation in Passaic County."

Mayor Chris Vergano urged residents to sign a petition last week asking the state Board of Public Utilities, Gov. Chris Christie, and the state Legislature to rescind JCP&L’s franchise to sell energy to Wayne residents.

A link to the petition can still be found on the township's website. More than 1,400 people have signed the petition since it went live online last week.

Now everyone who was affected by JCPL lack of well everything at this point, should keep in mind what they had to endure and continue to push to get rid of them from Wayne. Just because the power is back doesn't mean you forget about the petition and the need to be rid of them.

Yes. This company needs to get out of town NOW. Horrendous customer service just telling me seek shelter and make other arrangements than to stay in my own home after 13 days. Never, not once giving me a definitive date of restoration up to last day. Thank you to Mayor Vergano for helping us.

Just saw 25 utility company trucks working for JCP&L in the Walmart parking lot in Boonton. Asked where they were from he said Alabama, and were waiting for instructions of where to go. Told him Wayne !!!!!

the old A&P parking lot on rt 23 is always full of about a dozen utility trucks just hanging out. they need to help whoever still needs it, but with jcpl being so pathetic they don't have any instructions.
