Who Won The Presidential Debate?
Barack Obama and Mitt Romney duked it out in Denver, Colo.
President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney faced off in the first of three presidential debates Wednesday night. The debate was held at the University of Denver in Colorado.
President Obama, 51, vying for his second term, was leading by four percentage points in a national poll over challenger Mitt Romney, 65, before the debate. However, political pundits and speculation on Huffington Post questioned whether the debate could change the standings.
The candidates are expected to debate each other two more times - once on Oct. 16 and once on Oct. 22. The topics for those debates will be domestic policy on the 16th and foreign policy on the 22nd.
Even a small bump from Wednesday night's domestic policy forum could make the race much closer. Obama entered the debate with only a slight lead according to the polls of two key states, Virginia and Florida, said the Huffington Post. Those states are must-win states for Romney, the Republican challenger.
Did you watch the debate? If you did, what did you think? Was there a clear winner? Did one politician shine above the other. Vote in the Patch poll below.

Both candidates were good, but Obama was specific, and Romney completely lacked specifics. I believe that his plan for everything is to present a "broad outline" and "work with Democrats and Republicans" to come up with solutions. In other words, he has no plan to balance the budget, to provide health care to all, to close tax loopholes, or anything else. I'm amazed that pundits are saying the Romney "won." Yes, he was poised; yes, he spoke in full sentences; yes, he did not make any gaffes. But he spoke entirely in generalities. At one point, he was reciting portions of the Declaration of Independence and saying that the primary role of government is to implement its tenets. Well, yeah, but that's not going to make college affordable, or provide treatment for a sick child.
Ojo Rojo
11:43 pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2012
Well perhaps b/c his plan isn't to provide healthcare to all b/c he expects people who can pay for their own damn healthcare to get off their rear end and pay for it. As for tax loopholes, go look at your taxes and expect them all to disappear once you exceed a certain threshold. His plan already was released and he is capping deductions at $17K.
BTW, Obama is the master of generalities, empty promises and excessive spending. The man did something I thought impossible. He made Bush look good when it came to wasteful spending.
Richard
6:48 am on Thursday, October 4, 2012
If that is your position, then you were not listening. Romney said he views the presidents job as one that sets the goals and then works with those in authority to implement them. He specifically said he would not impose, much as Obama did with healthcare, thus not garnering any Republican support. Romney pointed to history when Reagan had a Congress controlled by Democrats, yet he met with party leaders and was able to get his goals achieved with the Legislative branch of government.
And, you missed the point with Romney referring to the Declaration and Constitution on the wall behind them. Where does either document say it is the Federal governments pervue to make college affordable or provide treatment for a sick child? Read it! Neither document says that. The Federal government has overstepped its bounds in too many instances usurping "home rule". The school lunch problem at Par Hills High is a perfect example of this.

Want me to remind you.......He gave his rich buddies all the opportunities to fill their bags with goodies of all kind, while he sat silently knowing what going to burst....taking out most of middle class equities and causing the real estate market to sink into a endless pit, wall street greed, and at the end they all ran with thier money bags... If you all forget I have not, and like Denobin said all Romey has to offer is a reminder of GB all over again ( he did so much damage to the economy, they cant even say his name or even dare to show his face...No thank you! Romey has no ecnomic background, except to start up companies and later root out all the capital then leave the working poor hanging off the cliff... I that's your opinion of economics and free market then we are in a sad state.

Romney's command of figures is highly debatable. In his opening remark, he stated an oft repeated bit of Faux Noise Channel yellow journalism in regard to the price of gasoline now being more than twice that when President Obama took the Oath of Office and citing this as "clear evidence" of an economy out of control. While it is true that gasoline was averaging about $1.70 per gallon in January 2009, republicans conveniently fail to mention (or recall) that gasoline was at an all-time high of about $4.20 per gallon in August 2008 just before the global economy began to tank. As Wall Street speculators began to dump their reserves and everyone feared the start of another Great Depression, the price of gasoline plummeted by about $2.50 per gallon.
The fact is that President Obama has had to spend much of his first term cleaning up the mess created by the previous administration and with Congressional republicans willfully trying to destroy him at every opportunity no matter the cost to our country. To be fair, term limits should be suspended and President Obama given another 8 years, and with a supportive House and Senate in place, to bring about real change.

If we elect the "leader" from tonight's debates we have more hope for our country compared to a government that is currently run by an empty suit. The question posed was: who do you think won the debate? Seeing 30% thinking Obama won is purely emotion rather than fact. Every democratic "endorser" admitted last night that Romney far outdid Obama and Obama looked annoyed he even had to be there, leaving many with the Obama the "elitist." Did you see how quickly he ran off the stage? The question was not: who do you want to win, it was who won the debate. So for those cheering Obama on, at least he has 2 more debates to turn it around. For Romney, welcome to the big stage! That was a huge win!

He just tried to appeal to the middle class which he is not! ,plus he got much more time to follow up on comments Obama made, while Obama did not get a chance to counter respond. So buy all the lies, because he was a completely different person, and if he is elected then all his hidden agenda will surface and all you fools will see exactly why he didn't want to disclose his plans for the country. First the middle class will definitely see an increase in their taxes while the rich see a decrease in theirs. Hospitals continue to close because they went bankrupt with millions of uninsured emergency patients, students fighting to get into the so called great schools, possibly war, because Romney will be influenced by Israel to attack Iran. Right now I feel safe living in the US, but if war mongrels get into power, there goes our safety!

If you want a market economy vote for Romney.
If you ant a socialist economy then vote for Obama.
An audio recording of President Barack Obama surfaced on social media Tuesday in which the president can be clearly heard telling a Loyola University audience in 1998 that he believes in the “redistribution” of wealth in America, something that his critics have long charged.
“I think the trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution because I actually believe in redistribution — at least at a certain level to make sure that everybody’s got a shot,” Obama can be heard saying.
The audio file, which was posted on YouTube, purports to be from an Oct. 19, 1998 conference at Loyola University, where Obama, then an Illinois state senator, termed the substance of his speech policy research “for the working poor broadly defined."

Gov. Romney had made several political gaffes in the past 18 months , and now his well rehearsed speech suddenly changes his personality! This man demonstrate that he will not stand for the majority of America, but only for the top 3%. ,
He made several false statements during the debate. Example, he stated that he's not aware of companies getting tax break for shipping jobs oversea and the deficit had doubled during the Obama's admins. these are all lies.

I LOVE OBAMA! Romney is full of crap!!! Obama was OBVIOUSLY TIRED. I am a college student and support Obama wholeheartedly, Romney is a LIAR. He can't explain any of his plans and read right off his notes, hence why he had to get his notes immediately following the debate. HOW EMBARRASSING!!! Anyway, I am not worried about it we all HATE Romney at the University of Mass. I can't wait to see Obama DESTROY Romney in the next debate. BRING IT OBAMA!!!!! Thank you and Goodbye!!!!!

What do you expect. Kids are taught by union teachers who refuse to allow accountability into the classrooms then they go to college where they spend 200k and have student loans to get a job at Starbucks or checking out books at Borders or working at the mall. No place for a college grad to go with 23 million already unemployed and looming defense cuts to further hurt the economy. Yeah I could see how Obama must rock it for someone like that. She probably thinks her Apple Iphone wasn't made by some $1 and hour kid in China but that's ok like Obama Apple is cool.

Obama is a puppet.... Do you honestly believe that Obamacare was created by him...all 2700 plus pages? Radicals have be working for many years to destroy this country. Foreclosures, bank bailouts, GM bailout, AIG bailouts, massive regulations, NGO's, public-private partnerships, Agenda 21, EPA
Regulations, TARP, ACORN, Solar energy, electric cars, ethanol, wind power, printing money and devaluing our dollar are just a FEW of the ways this administration is attempting to destroy our economy and our REPUBLIC. You better educate yourself to what is going on before you lose your rights and your freedom.

Barack Hussien Obama is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis and social chaos -- thereby destroying capitalism and our country from within.
Barack Hussien Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven, two professors at Columbia University. They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands.
Obama's game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival ... and can be counted on to always vote for bigger government. Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.
Stimulus and bailouts. Where did all that money go?
It went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions -- including billions of dollars to save or create jobs of government employees across the country. It went to save GM and Chrysler so that their employees could keep paying union dues. It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be bailed out (after giving Obama almost $1 million in contributions).
A staggering $125 billion went to teachers (thereby protecting their union dues). All those public employees will vote loyally Democrat to protect their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America.

Ahree, not to be mean but have you got a screw loose or something? Please show me what he is good at? A short time ago he held a prayer day at the white house and he prayed with more than 50,000 muslims, but for us americans he cancelled the national day of prayer, who cares that we may be offended, we don't seem to count anymore. Every president has always held a national day of prayer but this jerk cancels it.
When he took office there were 12.05 mill unemployed, today there is 12.54 mill, unemployment was at 7.8% now its 8.3% gas prices were $ 1.85, now it is almost at $ 4.00 a gal. american poverty was 39.8% now it is about 46.2% our federal deficit was at $ 10.6 trillion now its over $ 16 trillion dollars. I could go on and on but you get the picture, we are in worse shape today than we were 4 years ago. We have millions more out of work and on poverty and at least 4.2 trillion in foreclosure. You tell me where he did so good, he has disrespected this country and our troops numerous times and apoligized for America and has down graded our credit rating and we are in danger of have it down graded again because of all the spending. So please tell me what he did that was so good, he said he was going to bring the parties together, they are further apart now than before. Tell us what is so good about all that, and thats only part of it.

His master plan is the destruction of our Republic. He is a communist. He and his pals want more power and are so disturbed mentally that they want to control the world. To do this they must collapse our society and dollar. Then we will become a third world country, where all those that they have dumbed down and doped up will become peons and live in urban hubs where they will become prime targets for extinction by any enemy...that is if they are allowed to momentarily exist. After all, they must bring human population down from about 8 billion to about 1 million as they have determined that is the optimal populace that the entire GLOBE can sustain. Just why do you think the federal government has purchased over ONE TRILLION hollow point bullets? You can be assured your name is on one of them.

When unemployment dollars ran out...wasn't that after at least 99 weeks of unemployment?...The Big O merely allowed these same people to collect disability dollars. This scam of paying people for votes and disguising the real numbers on unemployment is just another devious method that is used by this President. Not only was Obama disinterested, his response that Romney would have a "busy first day" as President was as asinine as it was sad. Romney's transformation continues folks! Yesterday he said "There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda."
Could it be that he's not really a "severe conservative" after all. Nevermind that he promised he'd appoint supreme court judges that would overturn Roe v. Wade, or that he would be “delighted” to ban all abortions, or that he supported the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
He was for a woman's right to choose, before he was against it, and now he's...well...we just don't know what he's for, do we?

There is a big difference between a candidate whose overall support of gay rights (evidenced by his successful plan to repeal DADT) has evolved to include marriage rights, and a candidate who has gone back and forth so many times on an issue, that no one knows where he stands. Consider that during the primary, Romney not only said that he favored overturning Roe v Wade (which would turn the abortion issue over to the states), but talked about a constitutional amendment banning abortion altogether. Now he says that abortion is not part of his agenda at all??? How will pro-life voter feel about this recent flip-flop?

Well, I guess we will see on November 6. The only difference I see is that one is a Republican and the other is a Democrat. Is Obama a flip-flopper for saying "first thing I'm going to do is close Guantanamo Bay". Or telling Hispanic voter that "immigration reform is on the top of my list of things to get done", He speaks for political expediency.

It is time to get some details from Romney and Obama about exactly what they plan to do. I don't mean "cut taxes and close loopholes" I mean specifics. Are we better off than 4 years ago, numbers might say yes but I sure don't feel like it so Obama, tell us how we are going to move forward in very specific terms. Instead of debates, we should force them to publish a white paper telling us in exact terms what their plans are and how they will make things better.
