Bold New Design For Wayne Police Cars
Charger is one of a few cars with the new design that the department will purchase this year.
The Police Department has a new patrol car in its fleet and it looks very different from its counterparts.
The new car is a 2012 Dodge Charger. It is painted black with “police” printed in big blue letters on both sides.
“We’ve had a lot of compliments on that car,” said Chief John Reardon. “It’s very popular with our officers.”
The car is one of about 35 cars being used by the department’s patrol and traffic units. The department annually replaces about four cars from the units based on mileage and wear and tear.
Reardon said more cars with the new design will be added to the fleet this year. He did not comment on how much the cars cost.
The department’s old blue and yellow vehiclular color scheme debuted in 1986.
“It’s a significant change for us, no doubt about it,” Reardon said.
The department has a fleet of about 50 vehicles, including a prisoner van.
