Olsen Named MVP Of Elite Quarterback Competition
Highly-recruited state champion will compete in Elite 11 finals in California.
Kevin Olsen’s stock just keeps rising.
Olsen, a highly recruited Wayne Hills High School quarterback, was named the most valuable player of the New York City Elite 11 regional competition, ESPN reported Saturday. Olsen will attend the Elite 11 finals this July in California.
The Elite 11 is a national competition featuring the top high school quarterbacks in the United States.
Olsen told ESPN that he is excited to go California and compete with the best of the best.
Olsen is the seventh-highest rated pocket passer in the country and is ranked 77th in ESPN’s top 150 high school recruits. He completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,686, 20 touchdowns, and only six interceptions last season and helped his father Chris win his eighth state sectional championship. He is the second-highest ranked New Jersey recruit in ESPN’s top 150.
Olsen has reportedly received offers to play collegiate football from several high-profile schools, including the University of Florida, Rutgers University, and Notre Dame.
Olsen’s older brother Greg is a tight end for the Carolina Panthers.
Olsen raised eyebrows in February when he announced at a Board of Education meeting that he would not play next season if his “father, coach, and best friend” is not along side him. The older Olsen is also the school’s athletic director.
The board approved a new policy in January prohibiting administrators and supervisors from coaching sports teams or acting as advisors to any athletics or extra-curricular program.
The board chose not to renew Chris Olsen’s contract last Thursday. The decision was one of many changes to the district’s administrative structure. Olsen, who is a tenured physical education teacher, told NorthJersey.com on Friday that he planned to returns to teach and wants to be on the sidelines when Hills takes the field this fall to defend its state championship.
