Nor'easter Forecast Turning Grim

National Weather Service now calls storm 'significant.'

Hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans still reeling without power as temperatures took a decidedly colder turn the last two nights now face the prospect of a major Nor'easter striking the state Wednesday into Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the tri-state area, and it's predictions have grown more dire in recent days.

"A significant coastal storm will likely impact the tri-state region Wednesday and Thursday," the service said Monday. "Confidence continues to increase that strong, gusty winds ... rain/wintry precipitation ... coastal flooding and additional beach erosion will result from this system."

The storm is set to strike a little more than a week after superstorm Sandy, and the prediction comes the same day a minor earthquake struck North Jersey. It could seriously affect power restoration efforts.

I have an issue with the statement from the Englewood's Mayor in a piece featured in The Record (see below the webpointer)

"There was progress in Englewood
on Sunday. “PSE&G got the job done,” Englewood Mayor Frank Huttle
said late Sunday night. “The city is lighting up as promised.”

I guess the mayor has totally forgotten (or forsaken) us leaving in the apartment complexes in Brownstones or Sheffield.

Most of Long Valley is still cold and in the dark. I read article after article about progress being made, yet not one single truck has come to this part of town (Middle Valley, Zellers, Springtown) to fix any of the dangerous power lines and fallen trees hanging over roadways. With the bridge out for construction, we were promised that our only way out would be well taken care of. So much for that! It's been a full week without any sign of help on the way. Patience is wearing thin. No power, no running water, no heat. Enough is enough.

The National Guard is assisting in JCP&L in Warren Cty. What does it take for NW Morris Cty to get some attention. There are still two huge trees down on Fairview Ave tangled with power lines. I know this is a terrible time for many, but no progress in a week?

No PSE&G trucks anywhere in Bridgewater, either. Here's the problem: Vegetation Management with PSE&G has FAILED to "manage" the trees and then we're put on a very low priority because we aren't densely populated. Where ARE they "managing" the vegetation and trees? Nowhere! So write this moron: michael.koslowski@pseg.com
and tell him he's a failure, he doesn't deserve his salary, and then look up the Board of Directors of PSEG on their website, and write them at their place of business--that will drive them nuts. Or google their home addresses and write them there. Next Board meeting maybe they'll realize they can't continually ignore place after an event that they've already ignored with the failure to "manage" the vegetation so power lines don't come down. We have no power lines--they are all underground in my neighborhood but no power because a tree is down miles away. No flooding, no power lines but still no power?

Why do we pay the same for our electricity, when PSE&G tells us we won’t get the same service as the big cities? I understand their plan, and their desire to get the electric on to the majority of the population as fast as they can, but that means we take a seat at the back of the repair line, and for that I want a discount on my electric rate, or I want the very same service as everyone else!

You must be kidding. We haven't gotten our power back yet either. Makes me want to cry. We have twins that are almost 2 and it stinks not having power with 2 little ones.

No power at north maple and Undercliff in ridgewood. Day 7!!! Where are our 20,30k taxes going to? ..Primitive electrical wiring that can't be repaired? Majority of Ridgewood residents have preschoolers and elementary school age kids and in a situation like this are cold and can fall sick. Not fair on responsible, value adding, tax paying citizens. I expected a lot more from this town and the area of north jersey.

Your property taxes have nothing to do with power grid and electrical wiring.
But I understand your frustration,
PSE&G, O& R we are dealing here with unionized public company.
Ever tried to move a mountain?
Nothing will ever change. Nothing and never.

Your taxes have nothing to do with your utilities, but I guess knowing things like that doesn't matter when you form your opinions. Then again, that is pretty obvious with your 'value adding tax paying citizen' comment. How dare Sandy hit the rich people, her nerve!

PSE&G should be reporting every 4 hours on what's going on in every neighborhood that still has no power. That is very doable. Why they are not doing it is beyond me.
They have plenty of workers that are not actually working on repairing the downed lines, their management lacks leadership and innovation and common courtesy, don't forget we all of them, it's not free!

My husband works for PSEG. And while I agree that the management could DEF handle things WAY better, and have better organization. Please keep in mind that that the workers themselves have no control over the bosses. My husband left the day BEFORE the storm, to make sure he didn't get stuck because of the storm and was not able to help. He has been working from 7 am- 11 pm for the last 7 days. He had to leave his family, we have 3 small kids, home without power.... to help others. I am very proud of how hard my husband works. And how he puts in more than the required hours bc he knows that there are people that need help. All the workers that people fell are doing nothing.... are leaving their families to HELP! We got our power back only yesterday. And I know its hard to be without power esp with kids or older people. But it is NOT my husbands fault or any of the other workers faults, they did not cause Sandy. But they are working to help fix it. Cut them some slack. I cant speak for the management (bc i am not a fan of them either), but i can speak for my husband and his fellow workers.... they are working hard and trying to help everyone. They are cold and without power too! Be kind.

Some say, wire, transformers and other items needed to repair some of the problems are in short supply. It is also rumored some critical parts needed in generation and switching plants will need to be custom manufactured, but the United States of American no longer has the manufacturing abilities to make these parts. But my wife refuses to believe me when I tell her we've become a 3rd world country!

We’d all better pray the big one doesn’t hit Californian tomorrow, or we could really be seeing the end of the United States of America!

PSEG car was outside in the street for more than 48 hours starting Saturday morning and they did nothing. We still don't have power and PSEG truck left the area today afternoon. I don't get what they were doing here because all I saw was one PSEG employee sitting in the car all day and night. It must have been boring for the guy but still, why are they wasting the man power when he could go somewhere else and help fixing and hurry up and come to my street.

Some of the comments here a nothing short of disgraceful....they said BEFORE the storm that a week to ten days, and maybe longer to restore power. Many families HAVE NO HOME to back to. Some have died and many have lost all their possessions in this storm... so to hear suburban NJ whine because they still don't have power is sickening.... have you any idea just how bad you could have it??
