Jewelry Taken from Monhegan Ave. Home, Cops Say
Diamond-studded jewelry taken from home on Monday. An attempted burglary occurred in the same neighborhood on Tuesday.
Jewelry and $500 was stolen from a Monhegan Avenue residence Monday, Wayne Police said.
The burglary occurred between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., the police report said.
The homeowner reported the screen on a window in the laundry room was cut open and the glass on a rear sliding door was shattered, the report states. A broken garden hoe was found in the backyard.
A jewelry box containing a diamond necklace with a heart-shaped pendant, a pair of diamond-studded earrings, an oval sapphire necklace with diamonds, and a sapphire ring with diamonds, the wife of the homeowner reported.
A Monhegan Avenue resident told detectives she recalled seeing an older model grey or silver commercial work truck parked in front of her residence between 8 and 8:30 a.m. that morning. The truck had no words or lettering on it, police reported.
A Seneca Trail resident said she witnessed what appeared to be a male in his early 20s walking alone on Seneca Trail near the corner of Monhegan Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m. that day. The man was reportedly wearing a green hooded sweatshirt that covered his face and “big” loose jeans, the report states.
A Monhegan Avenue resident told police a “suspicious person” was seen in the area earlier that day.
Police are also investigating an attempted burglary on Easedale Road Tuesday night.
A resident reported he was laying in bed heard a loud “bang” on the front door, the report said.
The resident awoke and shouted: “Who’s there?” at which point he heard someone run away; when he opened the door he saw no one fleeing from the property, the report states.
There were tool marks on the door and crack marks on the doorjamb, but no entry was made into the residence, police reported.
Police canvassed the area for suspicious activity or people, but discovered none, according to the report.
