A homeowner came back from a morning run in the Waterview Estates on Sturbridge Circle Thursday morning to find her home in flames, surrounded by firefighters.

The woman, whose name could not be determined immediately, ran up to the house as firefighters were fighting the flames and said, "Oh my God, that's my house."

A neighbor said three children who live in the house got out safely.

Firefighters from all five Wayne fire companies were at the scene, but the home, at 40 Sturbridge Circle, was extensively damaged, with flames shooting through the roof and thick black smoke billowing through windows.

Firefighters used a ladder aparatus to get a hose up above the home to spray water down on it and also shot water through the second-floor windows in the rear of the dwelling.

Fire Commissioner Barry Turner said that at present, fire officials have "no idea of the cause" of the fire. He said the bulk of the fire was initially located in the attic but then spread up to the attic "where it flashed."

The cause of the fire does not apear to be suspicious, Commissioner Turner said, but fire investigators will try to determine what happened.

The residence is not habitable, Turner added.

The Wayne Volunteer First Aid Squad also responded to the fire, but there were no reports of any injuries.
