Entire 'Last Patriot' Documentary Premieres Friday
MSG Varsity chronicles last season of Wayne Hills quarterback Kevin Olsen and his father and coach, Chris.
The documentary “New Jersey’s Last Patriot,” about star quarterback Kevin Olsen, will premiere in its entirety on Friday at 7:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity.
The two-and-a-half-hour film chronicles Olsen through the recruiting process and throughout his senior season as Wayne Hills High School.
The first half of the documentary, the network’s first, premiered in August.
The second half of the movie was filmed this past season as Olsen tried to help his dad win a ninth state sectional championship.
Olsen broke a bone in his foot in the first game of the season and missed several games. His quest for a ninth state sectional championship for his dad fell short when the Patriots lost in the semi-finals to Pascack Valley earlier this month.
The film begins with the story of how Olsen’s coach and father, Chris came to coach at Hills, and how he met his wife Sue.
The rise of the Olsen family’s football pedigree was highlighted with Olsen’s older brothers Christian and Greg. Their role in helping bring the Patriots go from a lackluster program to a perennial state-championship winning powerhouse was featured.
The film shows the family dealing with the controversy involving the weeks long saga and fallout from an incident last fall. Nine Wayne Hills football players allegedly assaulted two Wayne Valley High School students after a Halloween party. Seven of the players were sentenced to probation.
The documentary will re-air on MSG Varsity Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. and on Christmas at 9 p.m.
