A 4-acre dog park and playground is being planned for the former W.R. Grace & Co. site on Black Oak Ridge Road near the intersection of Pompton Plains Crossroad.
The park will contain separate fenced-in areas for large and smaller-sized dogs, a playground and a walking path.
Mayor Christopher Vergano said the town will receive a $99,000 grant from the Passaic County Open Space Preservation Trust Fund and a $350,000 grant from the Vanguard Charitable Endowment Program.
Vergano said construction should be completed by Spring 2012.
The site, also known as the Wayne Interim Storage Site, was contaminated by thorium processing activities between 1948 and 1971. It is a former Superfund site.
Site remediation began in June 2000 and was completed in December 2001.
There are several parks, including Terhune Park, in the town where people often walk their dogs, but none of them have fenced-in areas exclusively for dogs.

Can't wait for this to open! Shouldn't have a playground, needs to be kid free.
