District officials and the Board of Education will discuss the proposed 2013-14 district budget at a special public meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Wayne Hills High School.

Dozens of residents attended similar meetings that were held last year.

Residents lost the ability to vote on the tax levy as long as the year-over-year increase is below the state-mandated amount of 2 percent. The Board of Education approved the change last year.

School taxes have steadily increased in the previous two years.

The average homeowner’s taxes increased $127 last year with a $127.3 million tax levy. The tax levy is the portion of budget funded by local taxes. The increase was less than the state-mandated 2 percent increase cap.

The school portion of the average homeowner’s taxes increased $254 in 2011.
