Democrats Keep Control of Freeholder Board

Republicans lose bid to gain majority.

Democrats will retain control of the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders after Bruce James and Theodore Best defeated Republicans Robert Ceberio and Frank Fusco.

With more than 99 percent of polling district reporting voting results, Ceberio, a Wayne resident and member of the Board of Education, and Fusco received 23,774 and 24,353 votes, respectively. James and Best received 29,778 and 28,761 votes, respectively. James, a Democrat, is an incumbent.

Democrats will again hold a majority, four out of seven, of the freeholder seats next year.

“We have to start the 2012 freeholder campaign tonight,” Ceberio said.

In other county election news, Democrat Bernice Toledo is the new county surrogate. He defeated Republican Larry Tosi, also a Wayne resident, 30,539 to 24,104.

Very Sad. Our county is in such financial disaster and it would have been nice to have new blood. This race is always controlled by the Dems. Ceberio would have made a good Freeholder.

Ceberio could have made a difference. We pay the one of the highest taxes in the COUNTRY (not just county) yet the same people are voted in? Hard to believe.

Well, the good news is at least Ceberio can now stay on the Wayne Board of Ed. He brings a strong business sense to the board and does not take any nonsense from those who want to just make noise. This unfortunate turn of events turned out to be good for Wayne.

Good point Soccer87. It would have been tough to lose Ceberio as a board member too. Especially with Mazzei leaving for Council. After many years, the Board looks like it is finally moving in the right direction. Nice to see.

Thankfully, Bob Ceberio lost as Freeholder. Now we need to remove him from the Board of Education.

if Wayne resident was really a Wayne resident that would hurt. Anyone that knows and did their homework on the candidates instead of listening to Brennan, would support him for his fiscal conservative views. The countys loss is our next tax increase. Get ready!

@ Real Truth..MANY people did their homework it seems, thats why HE LOST. Fiscal Conservatives in Congress have about an 18% approval rating..Why is that? Guess because many ARE doing their homework now..Lots of talk from YOUR party but NO solutions..Perhaps YOUR party should start doing some homework on what the 99%ers want, instead of YOUR fat cats...Sorry but YOUR buy LOST...

Bob Ceberio is as much a fiscal conservative as he is transparent on the BOE. He knows all the catchwords. He'll dazzle you with bullcrap. Fiscal conservative?. Please, don't get me started. Fortunately, I have a real job, unlike Bob. I'm not collecting a fat state pension. Sorry Bob, you lost on that County salary. You would have been a double dipper.

I wish every Wayne resident would realize how important the freeholder election is. We pay more to the County than our own town. With them Dems in control, all we can count on is paying more taxes to the county.
