First person in line arrived at 2 a.m.
Eighty-five people stood in line for hours at the Willowbrook Mall to get their hands on a new iPhone 4S Friday morning.
Shabeer Wali from Parsippany, was the first person in line outside the Apple store. He arrived at 2 a.m. and waited outside for five hours until the mall opened; the Apple store opened at 8 a.m..
Apple employees passed out bottles of water and took customers’ information to streamline the activation process.
“I stood in line for hours for the iPhone 4 so why not do it again for the next one,” Wali said. “Getting the latest technology allows me to make money because people will still pay good money for the older products.”
The iPhone 4S costs between $199 and $849 depending on if you buy it with or without a new 2-year contract. The phone features an 8-megapiel camera and new voice recognition software.
Angel Lopez stood in line for four hours waiting for his phone. Lopez, a native of Peru, uses his smartphones to keep up to date on what goes on in his native country.
“I have an application that allows me to read a Peruvian newspaper and I use Skype to talk to friends and family back home,” Lopez said. “I’d be lost without this thing.”
