Smoking would be prohibited at all municipal parks and recreational areas.

The Town Council will vote on an ordinance Wednesday that would prohibit smoking at municipal parks and recreational areas.

The ordinance would ban people from smoking or even carrying a lighted cigarette, cigar, or pipe in all parks, recreational areas, and swimming facilities, including their parking lots and driveways. Electronic cigarettes would also be banned.

Smoking is already prohibited “in all areas of” Barbour Pond Park and only allowed in the parking lots of North Cove Park, Captain Michael Kilroy Memorial Park, and the James W. Roe Memorial Pool.

Twelve other Passaic County municipalities, including Paterson, prohibit smoking at their recreational facilities.
