Christie Blasts Romney Staffers As 'Know-Nothing, Disgruntled'

Gov. Christie said Mitt Romney's staff had spread a false rumor that he had turned down an opportunity to campaign for the presidential candidate.

Gov. Christie dismissed rumors that he had turned down an opportunity to campaign for presidential Mitt Romney in Pennsylvania, saying the story had been spread by "know-nothing, disgruntled Romney staffers who don't like that I said nice things about the President of the United States."

Christie was in Westwood Tuesday to speak about New Jersey's recovery from Hurricane Sandy. The governor had previously praised President Barack Obama for the support the federal government had given to the state after the storm devasted coastal areas.

Christie explained that he had spoken with Romney before Sandy hit the state last week. Romney had asked him to join him at an event, but Christie told Romney that he would not be able to help if Sandy caused serious damage. Christie said he had never been formally invited to the event.

"Those who fear that they may be blamed if things don't go well look for other people to blame," Christie said.

Christie said he had voted for Romney Tuesday morning.

Obama came to New Jersey after the storm for a campaign opportunity and then neglected our storm needs - all the people ten days later who live without power, all the business still closed, people in gasoline lines, etc. Christie embarrassed himself by falling all over Obama. Christie is finished in the Republican party.

Chris Christie could have done what Michael Bllomberg had the guts to do and tell Obama to wait for a visit. (He's coming to visit again next week.) But Christie really did not want Romney to win because he wants a clear path to the presidency in 2016. You do not need to be a genius to figure that out. Christie and Obama are of the same ilk; opportunists out for their own personal gain. They should both be ashamed.

I am not a big Christie fan but he has focused on what is important - NJ hurricane victims. He also may have seen big government in action. Republicans seek to limit Federal department funding of key services for people in housing, FEMA, consumer protection. Maybe the door is open to see a new perspective.

Candles? while they were on the coast helping people who have lost their whole homes. Tree companies and power trucks from elsewhere were on the way to NJ even before the storm. Yes it's horrible to be without power for a week or more-- scary! But there were shelters and warming centers set up immediately. Stores were open. Water was running. People were told ahead of time to stock up, the state of emergency started on SATURDAY and people were told to evacuate the shore. For once Fair Lawn didn't even flood-- and I credit Christie with making them draw down the reservoirs for that.

Inasmuch as Sandy affected anything, it was because less-decided people across the country were comparing the response to Sandy to the response to Katrina*-- which certainly wasn't Romney's fault--, and the GOP rhetoric on disaster assistance the last couple of years, more than any photo op. jane you ignorant sl-t! Gas prices are twice as high as when Obamanation took office---when prices went up under Bush you were likely commenting how he was in bed with big oil. The stock market has increased on the strength of investment in the far east---not America. Along with Gas prices, food prices are through the roof--maybe you haven't noticed. Throw in that real wages are down over $4000 per person over the last 4 years, poverty is up, foodstamps are up, unemployment is up. What's Obama's answer?? I know, I know, create more dependancy on the government and more entitlement programs----you know, because the ones we have now are so well run and flush with tax revenues. You think you're bright---probably work for the government or make so much money, the prices of food, fuel and everything else means nothing to you. Obama is crushing the middle class. T NJ is broke as we struggle to pay all those dem favors to unions (government unions giving full pensions after 25 years in, along with virtually 100% taxpayer funded benes). If it wasn't for the most ignorant amongst us and the rich who could care less, there would be no Democrat party. Notice that more people are leaving this state than coming in---why? Because when people continue to vote to pick your pocket you feel you have no choice but to get the hell out an go to a republican run state. Only problem is that the Dems know to do that too and then ruin those states with their votes.

after this election you should learn a guy like christie is your only chance, not an extreme right winger who will not compromise. its 2012- most people believe women minorities and homosexuals should have equal pay/ rights / opportunities, humans have at least some impact on the environment, and keep religion out of politics. get with the times or get used to dems in office.

Equal pay for women is a Scarcrow issue and you know it. It has been refuted with facts and figures, ad nauseum. When I look at what Gay Marriage has caused in Canada (imprisionment of Clergy, intimidation of professional teachers, investigation of individuals accused of "hate crimes" because they spoke out for traditional marriage), I fear for the future of this country. I will not let you off the hook...please get back to me with the evidence that women, minorities and gays do not have equal rights. Maybe you meant "special rights". Oh yes, I forgot that the Republicans mounted a so-called "War on Women" Great sound bites that appeal to the unsophisticated who don't bother to explore issues in depth. Just compare the response of Obama after Sandy to the response of Bush after Katrina. Obama's response was immediate; it was forceful; it was decisive. Nothing's perfect but at least Obama learned from Bush's mistakes. And people who want "smaller government" should realize that FEMA IS government and how much worse off we'd be without it. Christie campaign letter promised 'no harm' to police, firefighter pensions, don't believe anything this guy says, he's a full blown liar!

"The claim that any harm would come to your pension when I'm elected Governor is absolutely untrue. It is a 100% lie," Chris Christie wrote to New Jersey law enforcement officers during his campaign against Jon Corzine. The 2009 letter, and a near-carbon copy sent to firefighters, has resurfaced amid Christie's bid to overhaul public servants' pension system.
"Nothing will change for the pensions of current officers, future officers or retirees in a Christie Administration," says the "Open Letter to Members of Our Law Enforcement Community," simply signed "Chris."

"I have repeated time and time again that the pension agreement we made with our member our law enforcement community must be respected," the 2009 letter adds. "It is a sacred trust."

Christie sent a similar "sacred trust" letter to firefighters through the state, adding: "The notion that I would eliminate, change, or alter your pension is not only a lie, but cannot be further from the truth.

"No one will stand up for you more than I will."

"Do not believe the lies that have been spread about my proposals,"Christie told both groups. "Your pension will be protected when I am elected Governor."

Unions have broken the backs of every state in which they have power. Who pays your pensions? Who pays for your benefits? It was an accomodation when police and teachers were paid somewhat nominal salaries. Average salaries in our town for cops??? $125,000 a year---f'ing ridiculous for a small town cop with a "C" average in highschool and two years of college. And you want free benefits too??? and retirement after 25 years? Who the hell is getting this in the real world?? Corporations would go broker if they had to pay that and we'd all be out of work. State union people don't give a poop that the rest of us are getting 1% increases each year and paying 50% and more for benefits that cost more every year while towns and the state are asking for 5% increases year-in and year-out for property tax increases to cover that crap. Enough is enough---live in the real world and quit complaining. I could care less about your newfound dissatisfaction--government unions need to be crushed into reality and non-union members are voting for just that.

I was wondering why the person who aspired to be the next President of the United States of America did not take any time out of his campaign schedule to show the New Jersey voters as well as voters aroud the country that he understands the full dynamic of what it means to be a people's president. Instead of showing support for the republican governer and offering suggestions of ways in which to improve federal response, he was on the campaign trail as if nothing out of the ordinary happened in New Jersey and NYC. Obama did exactly what he was supposed to do and needed to do. Imagine if he hadn't come to the disaster area. Every republican in the northeast would have highlighted Obama's insensitivity and possibly even tried to remove a little tiny bit of the enormous black cloud over George W.'s head (his total lack of response and sympathy following Katrina). The bottom line is that this country is changing rapidly and will change even more in favor of the dems base over the next four years, so the GOP must either change their makeup or accept failure because the "good old boy" network is in the minority. The secret is out, even dirt poor blacks and latinos now know that their votes counts and the inner cities carry enough weight to swing the electorate in a state otherwise full of wealth throughout the burbs. Next it's going to be a Santiago, Rubio or a Menendez, then a Lee or a Chang. Oh well. Stuff happens. Get over it. The good old boy network is dead.

President Clinton admitted that the Democats were to blame for the financial crisis. Clinton signed the law that repealed Glass - Steagall and allowed the banks to get into risky mortgages and investments. Then Dodd and Franks encouraged Fannie and Fredie to give loans to people who could not afford them so that everyone could have their own home. The mortgage industry also gave bad loans to people who could not afford them and the loan officers made a fortune in the process. The rating agencies rated groups of C rated loans as AAA and sold them around the world, which brought down the world economy. Obama did nothing to the three CEOs of the rating agencies, who between them, made over 80 million in three years. They committed fraud at the very least. Obama helped the auto industry which cost the tax payers because the car manufacturers did not pay back all of the loans. He did little to help the home owners who were talked into mortgages that they could not afford.

Bush just happened to be President when the housing market collasped. Clinton started the ball rolling. The risky mortgages destroyed the banking sector. The housing collaspe and the rating agencies brought down both our economy and the world's economy.

Yes, Glass-Steagall was repealed trough the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999-- GLB was written by 3 Republican congressmen, and was passed in a bipartisan way by a Republican controlled House and a Republican controlled Senate. The fact is that the Federal Reserve Bank had already been granting waivers to financial institutions that allowed them to get around Glass-Steagall - the Citibank/Travelers merger in 1998 is a good example. Both parties supported the GLB Act, so both parties deserve equal blame.

Fabulous revisionist history, Alana, why, it's almost as if Dubya really never happened, never signed TARP, and never occupied 2 countries on a credit card. There's no reason to stop at Clinton, however, I'm sure that FDR and JFK had a hand in the fiscal crisis.

I think the GOP is finished in American politics. They embraced the teabagging lunatic fringe of the far right of their party and We the People punished them for it.
They unleashed the hatred and dirty tricks, trying to do anything to win and ironically that try anything to win attitude backfired on them and actually helped Obama win.
I felt as though they thought we were stupid. While there are still plenty of idiots saying hateful things these people are a distinct minority and will always remain so.
I feel that the GOP did irreparable damage to their image by aligning themselves with the race hatred and "take our country back" bull crap lies of the far right.
Take our country back from whom, the American people? Because we the people elected Obama in the first place so they are in effect saying we Americans are unamerican. Stupid logic.
Oh and @Alana, the auto companies have paid back ALL the money they got from the stimulus- President Clinton never said the dems were to blame for the crisis. This is an example of the 'you think we are dumb' logic the right uses. You need to get your fact straight. I think this election showed that this making up lies thing is backfiring on you. If you don't like it then why don't you move to Canada, or if you don't want to move then why not STFU already!

The auto companies have not at all paid back all the money they got. They never paid a dime of the money they got before they filed for bankruptcy and they never will. Obama agreed to let that debt go unpaid. And the US Government made massive equity infusions (they bought stock) in GM and the government still owns that stock. Only the money they BORROWED after filing for bankruptcy was repaid.

Anyone that tells you that GM and Chrysler repaid 100% the money they got is telling you a bold faced lie.

Mitt Romney and supporters spent $800 million dollars to NOT become President. I spent $0 and got the same results. Who's the better business man?

I'd say Romney is the better business man as he spent other peoples money and he still has a net worth of several hundred million. So, hewins and you lose. Punk.

PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THAT THE MONEY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS THE STATE'S MONEY TO START. EACH STATE GIVES THE FED GOVT $10,000 PER PERSON EACH YEAR FOR THE GOV'T TO HOLD AND THEN WHEN A DISASTER HAPPENS, THEY ASK THE PRES. TO DECLARE IT A DISASTER SO THEY CAN GET THEIR MONEY BACK. WHY SHOULDN'T THE STATES KEEP THEIR OWN MONEY. DO WE NEED A PARENT TO HOLD THE MONEY FOR US???????????? SO REMEMBER, THE GOV'T DIDN'T GIVE NJ ANYTHING.

When is Glen Beck coming over for dinner. You can make him something from your post-apocalyptic, bomb shelter food stash.

We need some food, blankets, and shelter. How about starting with that and the eloquent details of poltical debate can be put on hold a bit. Fair enough?

Both Obama and Christie are doing very good jobs thus far and probably mat sime day be considered among the best that have held their office. Their remaining time in office and their legacy will tell.
However, neither one is probably going to be considered the best ever. Obama has to be considered above Washington, Lincoln, and FDR to start. Christie will have to be considered ahead of Woodrow Wilson and men named Livingston, Paterson and Bloomfield. I don't know much about the accomplishemnts of the last three but I imagine that they were pretty good.
