Board Vacancy Filled

Donald Monteyne takes Franco Mazzei's place.

Donald Monteyne has been chosen to replace former Board of Education trustee Franco Mazzei.

Monteyne was sworn in Thursday, Jan. 26. He will take his seat at the next board meeting on Feb. 2. The meeting will be held at the school district office beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Mazzei resigned his seat effective Dec. 31. He was elected to the town council in November. State law prohibits individuals from simultaneously serving on a municipal governing body and board of education.

Mazzei is the second individual to resign from the board in the past year. Former trustee James Jimenez resigned in July. He was appointed to fill former Councilman Lawrence Maron's seat. Maron was appointed to a Superior Court judgeship by Governor Chris Christie. Jimenez was elected to a two-year unexpiered council term in November.

I wonder if his political affiliation is republican. It appears that most, if not all of the board members, like the council, are republicans. Much too biased. Chris is the only registered democrat and I often wonder about his true political stance.

Justice...I agree with you about Chris. I find it strange that Scott Rumana didn't run someone against him. I guess it really doesn't matter though. Chris is harmless. Do you ever see him bucking the republicans on the Council? I never have! He goes along with everything. He's only one vote! They certainly don't need his vote to get done what they want to do.

Al -- I disagree with you. Without taking any position on the individuals themselves, I believe that a government split between the two major political parties is way better for the constituents than a government exclusively dominated by one party -- doesn't matter which party, either. A divided Council would give the taxpayers some comfort that both sides are keeping an eye on each other and that can only help.

Rob Burke-I have no argument with your point and do agree with it. I'm not condoning one party rule.I just find it strange that Chris ran unopposed with no one running against him. I have never seen Chris take a position contrary to the Republican dominated council. Is it not even a little strange that they agree on everything all of the time? I'm not saying disagree for the sake of disagreeing. Just find it odd that he never disagrees with what is being voted on!

Mr. Monteyne certainly has a wonderful resume when it comes to his education. You have to respect anyone who comes from one of our military academies. That's impressive all by itself. Stevens where he rec'd his Masters is an excellent school. Nice pedigree. Hopefully his inculcation in discipline at West Point will bring a fresh point of view to the BOE. I also hope that Mr. Monteyne will be an individual on this board and not be driven by an egocentric, politically driven group of trustees.

I agree with you Mr. Scala. We can only hope. Just remember, this gentleman was still picked by the current Board...not the voters. Until someone is elected by the people I prefer to refer to them as an "appointee". Time will tell. We have until November to make a decision.

I do know of him and he's a really nice man. The guy is a mush as big as he is. The only fear I have is that he might give into our board because he's such a nice man and wants no problems. If left alone he will do the right thing. Lets see?
