Bello Picked as Wayne Council President for 2013
Township reorganizes for the year. Toth sworn in as fire commissioner. Mayor Chris Vergano said municipality is not facing its own 'fiscal cliff.'
Councilwoman Nadine Bello was elected council president for 2013 at the township’s annual reorganization meeting on Wednesday.
Bello, who represents the 6th Ward, was unanimously elected to the position. She thanked her colleagues for their support and said she will “work hard to represent all of the residents of Wayne.
“Thank you for your support and confidence in me,” Bello said.
In his annual State of the Township address, Mayor Chris Vergano said that Wayne is not facing a “fiscal cliff” and that “this administration and this Council have worked together long and hard during the past five years under my tenure to make sure that our financial house would remain in order and I feel that we have accomplished that goal.” (A copy of Vergano’s speech has been attached to this article.)
Vergano, now in his 6th year as mayor, also highlighted the ongoing recovery of Police Officer Bob Franco.
“He truly is the miracle man of 2012 and has the most positive outlook on life that I have ever witnessed,” Vergano said. “I truly believe that one day he will return to the Police Department and we wish him all the best [with] his recovery.”
The township will purchase 17 more flood-prone homes in the Hoffman Grove section of town. This is in addition to dozens of homes that have been purchased and knocked down already.
Vergano said the township has made offers to purchase 65 homes in flood areas under the federal government’s Severe Repetitive Loss Program. The township will use $20 million to purchase the homes, which will then be knocked down, and the land they are on will be left to nature.
Fifty-seven homes are also be purchased by the state through the Hazardous Mitigation Grant Program.
Steven Toth, assistant chief of Company 2, was sworn in as fire commissioner. His appointment to that position is for two years.

Do you only decry term limits when the person you voted for lost? I haven't seen you cry for term limits for Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid? Once again, another fine hypocritical statement by the left.

Please let us know where in the world there are non-partisan elections? Also, take your call of term limits to the state assembly, Senate and Congress, not just to Wayne.

1 no I think term limits know no partisan preference 2 uhm the person I voted for happened to be upheld by the majority, 3 the hypocritical pluasable deniability of Gov Chrisite over the very predicatable outcome of the rights idealogues agenda that put the screws to NJ, what a performance! HA! the right hasnt the 1st clue how to govern by consensus and here in wayne its no differant, what a dog and pony show last night was, laughable.

Well if the person (Obama I presume) you voted for was upheld by the majority and Vergano was upheld by the majority, I really don't see your point. And while I agree that this bill should have been voted on in the house prior to recess, my bigger question is why was there a 2 month wait to have a bill to vote on? During Katrina, money was flowing in 2 weeks. But you won't criticize the Democratic President or Democratice Senate for that will you? In your eyes Stew, it's also the Republicans fault.

jack? you mean like how come the republicans just reitnroduced a bill to repeal Obamacare yet again and still did not bring forward Sandy? You guys need to get something through your heads, the GOP is not interested in anything but their ideologue agenda, in DC and here in Wayne. NY/NJ are never going to see that 60 B figure ever because the gop isnt going to sign on to it, get used to it, accept it, as quickly as you can and be happy you are not impacted by it any more than you may already be?

Stewart, I'm all for term limits. I'm also for throwing someone out for not doing there job. Be it local, County, State or Fed. Why have to wait till there term is up? I'm a Repub. But what Reid and the House speaker pulled this past year. They both should be replaced. With someone who feels for the tax payers. And not there backers. I see nascar got there money.

Stew, kind of like how the Prez and his followers were saying only the top 1% are going to pay more in taxes? Funny how everyone was impacted by the 2% increase in SocSec tax. Funny how they never mentioned that in their talking points either. Also funny how silent the left is on it. So now a middle class family making 50K a year has to shell out another $1000. Obama and Biden looking out for the middle class alright. Since you brought up Obamacare, how come Dem Senators are trying to repeal the 2.5% surcharge for medical devices? Didn't they know it was in there? That's right, as Pelosi said, "we have to pass it to know what's in it".
