Jerry Bello has resigned as chairman of the environmental commission.
The mayor's office confirmed Bello resigned this morning.
Bello could not be reached for comment.
Bello was named in a lawsuit by resident Bill Brennan. Brennan said Bello held the office illegally. Brennan suit states that Bello should not have been allowed to serve on the commission because he was convicted of official misconduct in 1994. Bello allegedly took bribes while he was chairman of the Paterson Improvement Authority. He was sentenced to four years probation.
Brennan passed out copies of the lawsuit and made and announcement about Bello's appointment before the council meeting Wednesday night.
"It cures one of the symptoms, but not the disease. The very people who appointed him are still in power and are going to replace him," Brennan said. "He had no choice. The law is clear."

Well said Rob. Spot on...Thats one down and a few more to go...Sitting high on their chairs looking down their nose's at people...Its all political appointments by YOU KNOW WHO...Now lets just get rid of a few more and come election time lets vote them out and get people in that have an understanding of Govt..Think the Mayor and his COURT would have spent the 50k on the flood victims and not on a lawyer the keep in their pocket...

Thanks for your reply. Recall that in response to my public settlement offer a month ago at a Council meeting that Vergano actually ridiculed me at that public meeting. Hardly a response becoming of his office. And certainly an indication that Monday's settlement conference that the court is requiring will likely be a waste of time -- and more money spent on the town's lawyers.
And they've already lost. All they can do is stop losing. There is no opportunity for them to win.
Yet they waste more money fighting a retaliatory fight and they could be using those same dollars to help the people who so desperately need it due to the devastation of Irene.

If she resigns, B & B will claim that the vacancy was orchestrated by Rumana.

@the dude: What is Rumana's position on Jerry Bello? NJELEC reports show that Bello donates money to the PCRRO if I recall correctly. Where is Rumana?

This is a very complicated case. You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous. And, uh, a lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Fortunately, I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, uh, limber.

Thank you, Bill Brennan for doing what you did! You were the impetus to have him remove himself from the Environmental Commission. I'm not quite sure why the Town Concil did what they did! They had to know the law and simply decided to overlook it. I'm deeply disappointed with the Council.

For those wondering about the importance of Bill Brennen's success- The WEC is made up of 7 members ( right now 6) and have the power to advise other agencies and towns ( like Oakland for example ) as well as aquire land and/or endangered open space, and also make recommendations to the planning board and/or Mayor and Council regarding the development or use of the aquired property/land. One of the 7 members is "or was" a planning board representative.
Town Hall is a small circle - if one of it's members get's as much as a parking ticket-all of them know about it.

as you describe the position it doesn't sound like one where you would want someone convicted of taking bribes to hold. oI also would like to thank Bill Brennan for his efforts and being a watchdog for the citizen's of Wayne.

Kudos to Dan Hubbard for breaking this story. The Record, forever slow on the uptake finally managed to put a blurb together online. The aggression will not stand???? I hope you are correct because the aggression of corruption spearheaded by Scott Rumana -- RUMANA'S CORRUPTION COSTS YOU MONEY
People are embarrassed and ashamed of this local government. For good reason. There's not an honest person among them.
