Aspiring Philanthropist Sees So Much Potential for Good

Daniella Scaglione has spent her senior year helping others.

Daniella Scaglione gets it.

The budding philanthropist wants to have enough money when she grows up to help others in a tangible way.

Scaglione’s desire to assist those less fortunate than her stems from several experiences she’s had this year. She traveled to the Dominican Republic on a mission trip to help Haitian refugees. She is also collecting toys and games and sending them to an orphanage in Haiti.

She said broadcast journalism is a medium she can use to further her dream of helping others.

“I like to help people and carry on that generosity and publicize it. I’ve assessed my personality and want a way to communicate with people and project my voice in society and journalism allows me to do that. I can use it to help others less fortunate than I am.”

Scaglione has a 3.9 grade point average. She is captain of the lacrosse team. For her, working hard is only way she knows how to work.

“My parents raised me with the mentality that hard work equals success, so you have to work hard for what you want,” Scaglione said. “I’ll receive their gratitude for working hard, but it is about my own success, that’s why I work as hard as I do.”

Scaglione said the reason why there is so much negativity in society is because people don’t focus on helping others as much as they could.

“I think there’s enough people in the world where we could erase all of the poverty and all of the negativity out there, but that’s not what people are focused on today,” Scaglione said.

She will attend Hofstra University in the fall.

“I’ve looked for philanthropy majors and minors, but couldn’t find any,” Scaglione said. “It’s still a dream of mine. I plan on taking advantage of the education I will receive, and have received, so I will be able to do what I want to do.”
