SHOMREI TORAH CELEBRATES ITS STRATEGIC PLAN
SHOMREI TORAH CELEBRATES ITS STRATEGIC PLAN
Shomrei Torah – The Wayne Conservative Congregation was fortunate enough to be accepted for a three-year grant by the Synagogue Leadership Initiative (SLI) of UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey, in partnership with the Henry & Marilyn Taub Foundation. The grant allowed Shomrei Torah to engage in a three year strategic planning experience under the guidance of SLI professionals Judy Beck and Nicki Falk and professional management consultant, Dr. Nan Foltz.
The first year of the Plan involved composing a mission statement, vision statement, statement of core values, motto, and the Plan itself. Year 2 involved implementing the Plan and its critical issues, goals and action steps, as well as working on job descriptions and chain of command issues. Year 3 involved sustaining the Plan by re-examining and continuing to implement it. Year’s 3 Team also made application for an additional grant from the Taub Foundation. Because the rules required that each Year’s Team had to be different and had to be composed of members with varying backgrounds, ages, years of membership, and involvement in Shomrei Torah affairs, a large number of people became involved in the Plan. Along the way, various aspects of the Plan involved Shomrei Torah’s committees and its Board of Trustees, as well as Congregational meetings to discuss and revise it.
Having now completed Year 3, the combined Teams and the Board celebrated on June 20 with a dinner and a fun filled evening with humorous gifts and mazel tovs all around!
